Priyamani pitted against Madhavan

National award winning actress Priyamani will play Madhavan's ladylove in Thangar Bachchan's forthcoming film.

To be produced by Ayngaran Internationals, the movie brings together Sathyaraj, Madhavan and Priyamani for the first time. The actress, who won the National award for best actress for her performance in 'Paruthi veeran', is currently acting in a movie made by veteran director Mani Ratnam. Up on completion, she would act in Thangar's film.

Interestingly, Madhavan plays Sathyaraj's son in the film. Sathyaraj and Thangar had earlier teamed up with Sathyaraj in 'Onbathu Roopai Nottu'.

'Paruthi Veeran' rules the roost at filmfare awards

It was a joyous moment for Tamil cinema as 'Paruthi Veeran' grabbed six awards including the awards for best actor and actress at the 55th annual Filmfare Awards held in Chennai on Saturday. Veteran film personalities Sivakumar and Jayapradha were conferred the lifetime achievement awards on the occasion.

Quite typical to any film award functions, the annual Filmfare awards at Chennai Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witnessed variety dance performances by Poonam Bajwa, Rambha, Dhivya, Hanshika Motwani, Shobana, Namitha, Shriya, Raja and Vineeth. Members of dance master Kala's troupe accompanied them on stage.

The awards function was graced by the who's who of Indian cinema besides noted politician Amar Singh.

The list of awardees in Tamil:

  • Karthi (best actor – 'Paruthi Veeran')
  • Priyamani (best actress – 'Paruthi Veeran')
  • Sujatha (best character actress – 'Paruthi Veeran')

  • K V Anand (best cinematography – 'Sivaji')
  • A R Rahman (best music director – 'Sivaji')
  • Pa Vijay (best lyricist – 'Unnale Unnale')
  • Prem Rakshith (best choreographer – 'Azhagiya Thamizh Magan')
  • S P Balasubramaniam (best male singer – 'Mozhi')
  • Sadhana Sargam (best female singer – 'Kireedam')

Sivakumar was given lifetime achievement award by his sons Suriya and Karthi. It turned out to be an emotional moment as Sivakumar was almost moved to tears. Jayapradha was given the award by Amar Singh.

The glittering awards function was attended by Mohanlal, Ileana, Nayantara, Sarath Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Venkatesh, Madhavan, Rakshitha, Allu Arjun, Srikanth, Lingusamy, Vasanth, Ravi Theja, Swarnamalya, Sumalatha, Charmi, Vimala Raman, Sindhoora, Lakshmi Rai, Saranya, Poornima, Meena, Shaam, Naren among others.

Madhavan's 'Leelai' shelved

Ram Gopal Varma's Hindi film 'Darling' was to be remade in Tamil with Madhavan and Sada in lead roles. RGV collaborated with some financiers from Hindi filmdom to produce this film and it was to be directed by Kona Venkat.

The movie titled 'Leelai' set sail smoothly with Madhavan, Sadha and Shamitha Shetty reportedly donning their roles perfectly in this obsessive love themed thriller. But then, financial constraints have unfortunately made the ninety percent complete film come to a grinding halt.

The movie has been officially shelved and what's more, the name 'Leelai' is now being used for another project from the stable of Aascar Ravichandran.

'Guru En Aalu' moves to Dubai

Madhavan's ‘Guru En Aalu’ will be shot in a few exotic locales in Dubai. Directed by Selvah and produced by KRG, the movie is a remake of the recent Bollywood hit 'Yes Boss'.

The Shahrukh Khan starrer 'Yes Boss' was about a youth, who is desperate to strike it rich in life. He encounters a situation wherein he has to advocate the cause of his boss to a beautiful young girl. In time the youth himself falls for her. The Tamil version features Madhavan, Malayalam actress Mamta Mohandas and Abbas in lead roles.

The shooting is on at a quick pace and major portions were canned in Chennai. Now the crew is planning to film some important scenes in Dubai. Selvah is also contemplating on shooting a song sequence in Switzerland.

Madhavan is upbeat about the movie. He says, 'I had seen ‘Yes Boss’ several times. It has loads of emotions, romance and humor in it. Selvah is a crafty director, who can do justice to the script'.

Madhavan in 'Guru En Aalu'

A Hindi film 'Yes Boss' starring Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla is being remade in Tamil by director Selvah. The movie has been named 'Guru En Aalu'. Madhavan acts in the lead role, whilst Mamta Mohandas, Abbas, Brinda Parekh and Vivek also play roles in the film.

The story is about the married owner of a company with flirtatiuos tendencies and pining his interests on a girl (Mamta Mohandas). His employee (played by Madhavan) is assigned to create sutuations wherein his boss and the girl can get to know each other very well. Invariably the inevitable happens and Madhavan falls in love with that girl.

The film is produced by KRG. Apart from Selvah, who directs the film, the cinematographer for the project is Senthil Kumar, whilst the editor is National Award winner, V. T. Vijayan. The dialogues for Aziz Mirza's script is handled by L. Venkatesan and lyrics are written by Pa. Vijay, Kabilan and Pazhani Bharathi. Srikanth Deva is the music diector for the film.
