Nadiya steps into Aamir's shoes

One of the most acclaimed 'Taare Zameen Par', which sensitized millions, had Aamir Khan in the role of a teacher who identifies an eight year old boy as dyslexic and helps him to emerge out of the challenging defect. The similar role of an understanding teacher will be played by the yesteryear beauty Nadiya in an upcoming movie titled as 'Pattalam'.

Nadiya features as school correspondent cum psychiatrist in this movie which is produced by director Lingusamy's production house 'Thirupati Brothers'.

Rohan Krishna, a film institute student makes his directorial debut through this film. He was a former assistant to Rajiv Menon and Santosh Sivan and also has won a national award for a short film titled 'Paramapadham'.

The film revolves around the school students, played by new comers and has strong, emotional values, which impressed Nadiya very much and made her act in the movie as she is very selective about her projects these days.

Priyamani pitted against Madhavan

National award winning actress Priyamani will play Madhavan's ladylove in Thangar Bachchan's forthcoming film.

To be produced by Ayngaran Internationals, the movie brings together Sathyaraj, Madhavan and Priyamani for the first time. The actress, who won the National award for best actress for her performance in 'Paruthi veeran', is currently acting in a movie made by veteran director Mani Ratnam. Up on completion, she would act in Thangar's film.

Interestingly, Madhavan plays Sathyaraj's son in the film. Sathyaraj and Thangar had earlier teamed up with Sathyaraj in 'Onbathu Roopai Nottu'.

Who's running the race on Deepavali?

With just a few days to reach Deepavali, it is still not clear as to which movies would hit the screens on the festive day and which are the movies that would step aside from the race.

Ajith starrer ‘Aega’n and director Hari's ‘Seval’ are sure to be on the tracks for the festival. Aegan directed by Raju Sundaram, features Ajith and Nayantara in the lead roles. A remake of Shahrukh starrer ‘Main Hoon Na’, it has musical score by Yuvanshankar Raja.

Seval brings together Bharath, Poonam Bajwa and Simran. Directed by Hari, the movie has music by G V Prakash. A racy entertainer, quite typical of Hari, expectations are high on the film.

Guru En Aalu starring Madhavan, Mamta Mohandoss and Abbas is keen to run the race. A remake of Shahrukh's Yess Boss, the movie is directed by Selvah and produced by KRG. Having been censored, it looks certain that ‘Guru En Aalu’ too would be ready to entertain the audience.

All eyes are now on Goutham menon's ‘Varanam Aayiram’. Starring Surya in a dual role, the anticipated extravaganza is being produced by Aascar Ravochandran. Sharing screen space with Surya are Simran, Divya Spandhana and Samira Reddy. Music is by Harris Jeyaraj. Though sources close to the production house expressed confidence that the movie would hit the screens on Deepavali, a section of the industry men expressed apprehensions on its fate.

Last but not least, Samida, a movie made by an all new cast and crew is on a high confidence level and is ready to run the race with biggies.

Tamil tution for 'Marma Yogi' cast

'Marma Yogi' started off with a photo shoot at the AVM Studios in Chennai recently and Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Shriya and Hema Malini were part of it. All actors looked ravishing at the photo shoot especially because of a new form of make-up that was used. Called Spray Make-Up, this is probably the first time it is used for an Indian film.

The results were there to see as both Trisha and Shriya glowed with radiance and charm. Kamal Haasan, who has written the script, will also be directing the film. Touted to be the costliest film to ever come from India the film will be shot using the most modern Red Camera. A cinematographer and a team of make-up artists from Hollywood are expected to be part of the film.

Interestingly, some prominent actors of the film who would dub for themselves like Trisha will be trained to speak in chaste Tamil as was spoken centuries ago. Trisha has been provided with a trainer who has started coaching her in Senthamizh. Looks like the perfectionist in Kamal Haasan does not want to leave any stone unturned.

Kamal's 'Marmayogi' casts a quartet of heroines

Next to Kamal Haasan's dream project 'Dasavatham', the magnum opus 'Marmayogi' has already made it to the news stirring expectations that it will be nothing short of incredible.

Latest buzz is a new technique of spray makeup is being used in this film. An accolade is that this is first ever happening in the history of Indian Cinema. The latest news is about the heroines of this film.

Acquainted news is that Trisha has already been roped in to play the heroine. Shriya Saran has also rendered her consent to appear alongside Trisha in another lead role. Now it is learnt that there will be 4-heroines in this film. Along with the newbies, the yester year's dream-girl Hemamalini and popular actress Shobana are proposed to share screen space along with the other two actresses.

Further, they will be cast in the sequences featuring 8th century incidents. Another scoop is some of the sequences is to be shot near Sivasamudram waterfall, in Mandya District of Karnataka, and few others at various exquisite locales.

Mumaith Khan in 'Marma Yogi'

Mumaith Khan, who shot to fame playing item numbers in a slew of Tamil films in the recent past, is the latest addition to the ‘Marma Yogi’ team.

 Mumaith Khan Gallery

The movie enacted and directed by Kamal Haasan, features Trisha and Shriya in prominent roles. Buzz is that Venkatesh and Hemamalini have been roped in for special roles. With music by AR Rahman, the period film is all set to go to floors very soon.

Latest news says Mumaith Khan has been roped in for a special role. Sources close to Kamal Haasan indicate, “Mumaith Khan would be playing a negative role in the film. Her role will have some grey shades.”

Rajini's fans make a move

After painting Coimbatore red with wall-posters heralding the entry of actor Rajinikanth into politics, his fans in Kovai on Monday launched a political party in an attempt 'to put pressure' on the 'Superstar' to take the political plunge.

Announcing the party's name as Desiya Dravidar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (DDMMK), they also released the party flag in red, white and black - featuring Rajini's face inside a shining star.

About the new outfit and flag, Rajni Babu, who is a councillor in Madukkarai says that the party had been launched only to impose pressure on their hero to foray politics. We have made this flag and outfit to represent ourselves in the world of politics and wish our leader to make his announcement soon.

Sources close to the actor said, “Rajini was scheduled to discuss the issue of entering politics and starting a party with his fans from 12th to 18th October.”

The meeting will take place amid expectations by his fans that he will follow the footsteps of Chiranjeevi, says one of his close friends.

Destination Alps for Ajith

Now that the entire talkie portion and four other songs of the film have been completed, the cast and crew of Ajith starrer 'Aegan', will leave for the Swiss Alps to shoot one more song.

According to reports, the unit is planning to leave Chennai on Monday and will return in a week's time.

Raju Sundaram, the director of the movie himself will be choreographing this soft romantic melody tuned by Yuvan Shankar Raja. 'Aegan' is being produced by Ayngaran International.

It may be recalled that Ajith and Asin had been to Alps last year to shoot a song for 'Azhwar'. The movie directed by Chella had a song shot in the snow capped Alps.

Mani Ratnam’s Production no: 11

It’s well-known that Mani Ratnam directs a bilingual flick in Hindi and Tamil for his production house Madras talkies, which has its storyline based on the epic Ramayana. The film started rolling and the shoot progresses in the dense forests of Chalakudi. Abhishek would join the crew for the shoot by tomorrow, October 5th whereas Aishwarya would come to Chalakudi on October 8th.

Maniratnam titled his movie as ‘Ashokavanam’ for its Tamil version and ‘Ravana’ for its Hindi version. But now the Tamil title has been in mess as the name has been already registered in the film chamber by another popular director who would introduce his son to the filmdom through the film titled same as ‘Ashokavanam’.

However, the closer sources reveal that the ace director would finalize and announce the title of the film once the first schedule of the shoot gets completed and till then the film would be denoted as ‘Production no:11”.

Ajith nears his half-century

Close on the heels of actor Vijay nearing his 50th film, actor Ajith too has joined him in the race. 'Aegan' starring Ajith, is his 48th film (directed by choreographer Raju Sundaram) which is ready for release on Deepaavali. His next would be directed by Gautham Menon for Sivaji Productions. All eyes are now focussed on who would direct Ajith for his 50th film.

Interestingly Vijay's 48th film is 'Villu' and is directed by Prabhudeva. His next would be 'Vettaikaran' followed by his 50th film to be produced by his father S A Chandrasekharan. The director is still to be finalised.

The fact that two popular heroes of Tamil cinema nearing their 50th film is a moment to cherish for their fans.

Remya Nambeesan From Kerala with a mission

Remya Nambeesan has emerged a name to reckon with in Tamil cinema thanks to the success of 'Raman Thediya Seethai'. The young girl from Malluwood, has played a prominent role alongside actor-director Cheran in 'Raman Thediya Seethai'.

With her girl-next-door-looks, she has won the critical appreciation for her performance in Raman Thediya Seethai. Now the girl is confident that she can make it big in Tamil cinema too.

Says Remya, 'I played a meaty role in 'Raman Thediya Seethai'. I had the fortune of coming in two different get-ups – a trendy ultra-modern woman and a poor house wife.'

She is currently paired opposite Sakthi (son of director P Vasu) for a movie titled 'Aatta Nayakan'. Unlike Raman Thediya Seethai, it is a commercial film, I play a bubbly young girl in it, she says with glee.

The movie went to floors recently. 'I have many offers coming my way and hopefully I would make it public very soon', she adds.

Ajith is a don now

Grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Ajith would play a don in his forthcoming venture to be directed by Goutham Menon.

The shooting of this film will start on 1 November. Ajith has been impressed a lot with Goutham Menon's script with a difference from others.

The film is about a middle class youth who becomes a dreaded don in the world, while Sameera Reddy will plays his ladylove. The film will have music by Harris Jayaraj, and camera is by Ajith's favourite Nirav Shah, who cranked the camera for 'Billa', will handle cinematography.

The movie is produced by Sivaji Productions.

Marital bliss awaits Kavya Madhavan

Popular Malayalam actress Kavya Madhavan has announced that she would be getting married soon. Introduced to the film world as a child artiste, Kavya Madhavan shot to fame after her first role as heroine in the Malayalam film 'Chaddranudhikkunna Dikkil'. She became a huge name to reckon with after movies such as 'Thenkasi Pattanam', 'Thillakkam', 'Perumazhakkalam', 'Naalu Pennugal', 'Anandabhadram', 'Meesa Madhavan' and 'Classmates'.

She also added that she has been performing Mangalya Pooja to get a good husband.

The actress is currently working for the Malayalam film 'Banaras' with Vineeth in which she plays a dancer.

'Eraaa' – A spooky tamil thriller

The name means 'night' in ancient Tamil. There is one element that is widely believed across cultures - ghosts and spirits make eerie appearances when darkness falls.

A movie is being made with the name 'Eraaa' and as the title suggests the film explores mysterious paranormal happenings. The story follows Nakul, a paranormal investigator who goes to a haunted house in Munnar. Daybreak finds him dead under mysterious circumstances. Puzzled by this incident a TV reporter named Daisy goes over to investigate and brings to light as to what really was the cause of Nakul's death.

Using this backdrop, the filmmakers turn the spotlight on the common beliefs so many of the general public have. According to the filmmakers, the movie would send chills up the spines of audiences and all this without the depiction of violent or gory sequences.

The narration has the point of view of one character that relates and identifies with audiences. The crew of the film seems to have done their home work. They have involved themselves in the study of paranormal activities and have been working with Ouija board (wee-gee board), EVP recorder, EMF meters and many more scientific instruments. Moreover they involved themselves in night shoots at locations that are broadly believed to be haunted.

Debutantes make up the entire technical team of the film. Satish G is the cinematographer while music is by K. Venkat Prabhu Sankar and editing by Hari Shankar. Story, screenplay and direction are by three people, Harishankar, Hareesh Narayan and Krishna Sekhar.

The film is being shot in Chennai right now after completing schedules in Munnar.

'Dhaam Dhoom' and its fight against piracy

Media One Global Entertainment, the producers of the Jayam Ravi starrer 'Dhaam Dhoom', has come up with a plan to fight piracy. According to Surya Rajkumar of Media One, 'a 24-hour anti-piracy cell with ten dedicated phone lines will be opened at our office and people can inform them if they come across pirated CDs of 'Dhaam Dhoom' anywhere.'

'Media One has joined hands with Tamil Thiraipada Padhugappu Kazhagam, floated by producer K Rajan and the fan clubs of actor 'Jayam Ravi', in order to fight piracy', said Surya Rajkumar.

'The phone lines (numbers to be announced soon) would be open round-the-clock and the general public can contact them anytime', he added.

Dhaam Dhoom features 'Jayam' Ravi, Jayaram, Kangana Ranaut and Lakshmi Rai in lead roles. Cinematographer - director Jeeva, who commenced the movie passed away while shooting in Russia and his associate G K Manikandan has managed to complete the movie.

The movie has music by Harris Jayaraj. Also in the Dhaam Dhoom team are Pa Vijay and Na Muthukumar (lyrics), S Ramakrishnan (dialogues) and V T Vijayan (editing). The movie will hit the screens on 29 August.

Asin to pair Vijay?

It looks likely that Asin might be roped in to play Vijay's heroine for his next film 'Vettaikkaran', to be produced by AVM Balasubramaniam and directed by Babu Sivan, a former associate of Dharani.

Asin is currently shooting abroad with Salman Khan for a Hindi movie titled 'London Dreams'. The movie will be completed in about two months' time. It looks likely that if she is free by October, she can accommodate dates for the Vijay starrer. The Vijay-Asin couple is considered a safe bet in Tamil Cinema.

Meanwhile, Asin's maiden Hindi venture 'Ghajini' is nearing completion and would hit the screens very soon. She plays the role enacted by her in the Tamil original. Aamir Khan plays the lead role in which director Murugadoss is wielding the megaphone.

Sneha the new action heroine

Actress Sneha has been assigned to don the lead role in a movie which is to be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. This film is an inspired version of the Vijayashanthi starrer 'Vyjayanthi IPS' which was released in the 1980s.

The action-packed flick featuring Vijayashanthi as a honest police officer was loaded with action. She fought corrupt politicians and police officers in the movie. This performance fetched her the National Award for best actress.

Sneha has reportedly agreed to do the remake of the movie which would be directed by Aarthy Kumar. The latter had directed films including 'Sound Party' featuring Sathyaraj before.

Ramba hospitalized

Actress Ramba was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Monday following food poisoning.

She was given immediate medical aid and her condition is said to be stable. A popular actress Ramba is currently hosting a dance show called 'Maanada Mayilada' for a private satellite channel. The whole crew of the show was by her side at the hospital.

Ramba stormed Tamil Cinema with 'Uzhavan' opposite Prabhu. She followed it up with films like 'Ullathai Alli Tha', 'Arunachalam', 'Kadhala Kadhala' among others.

She produced and enacted a major role in 'Three Roses'. Ramba is also a very popular actress in Tollywood. Ever since she was hospitalized rumors were abuzz that she had attempted suicide. However sources close to the actress confirmed that it was due to food poisoning.

'Dhaam' Dhoom' - The last one from Jeeva

Never again after August 29 is a movie going to release bearing the name of Jeeva, the late cinematographer and director.

'Dhaam Dhoom' the last of the visual treats from the brilliant film maker will hit the big screens amid expectations and remorse of the loss of a person whose peak days of glory were yet to come.

The film starring Jayam Ravi, Kangana Ranaut and Lakshmi Rai is a tribute to the creativity of Jeeva who passed away last year while on the task of completing the shooting in Moscow.

The film with a running time of less than 2 hours and 30 minutes has been given a clean U certificate by the censor board.

Jayaram portrays a very significant character and the music has been composed by Harris Jayaraj.

Trisha to pair Kamal Haasan in 'Marma Yogi'!

There has been a lot of speculation shrouding Kamal Haasan's 'Marma Yogi' of late with special emphasis to the female lead of the film.

It was first reported that Kamal Haasan who directs the film was quite keen in casting Kajol, but then the actress could not make herself available due to various reasons. Then attention was turned towards Shriya Saran and Padmapriya. It is now confirmed that these actresses have nothing to do with the film. The latest news is that Trisha would be paring Kamal Haasan. However, it has been confirmed that the only actress to have signed on the dotted line is Jayapradha who would be playing quite a prominent role.

We'll have to wait and see if Trisha's involvement with the project holds water or not. Certain sources claim that Trisha has okayed a 100-day call sheet for the 'Marma Yogi' and that she's looking forward to acting with Kamal Haasan.

'Jeyam Kondaan' and 'Dhaam Dhoom' to fight it out

August 29 will see the two films 'Jeyam Kondaan' and 'Dhaam Dhoom' fight for audiences in grand fashion. Both films have been designed with youthful splendor with slick cinematography and impressive casts.

'Jeyam Kondaan' stars Vinay who shot to the limelight after the stupendous success of 'Unnale Unnale', Bhavana and Lekha Washington. Vinay, very much on his way to becoming a heartthrob among girls will be seen romancing Bhavana on screen while Lekha Washingtom plays his sister.

'Dhaam Dhoom' showcases 'Jayam Ravi' as a medical student who is caught up with unpleasant incidents in Russia. Kangana Ranaut plays the heroine of the film. Incidentally this is the last work of Jeeva who passed away while shooting for this film in Russia. Jeeva's assistant Manikantan worked as director from where his mentor left off.

The very fact that both these films ooze with youthful fragrance is the key factor behind a healthy competition at the box office. Let's wait and see which of these films find more favor with Tamil audiences.

Karan to star as a transgender person

Ever since actor Karan started playing hero in films he has been donning varied and interesting roles. In 'Kokki' he played a naïve rustic simpleton who could be easily taken for a ride. 'Karupusami Kuthagaitharar' saw him play a small-time business man and in 'Thee Nagar' he portrayed the character of a student leader. In 'Kathavarayan' he donned an expressive role of an illicit liquor baron.

In his next flick titled 'Arthanari' Karan would be seen playing a transgender person. The film is to be directed by Nandha Periyasamy who had churned out the Arya starrer 'Oru Kalloriyin Kadhai'.

Karan seems pretty happy to play the challenging role of a transgender person. 'Gone are the days when transgender people were shown in poor light in films. Movie audiences have begun to understand and respect these people. 'Arthanari' would help a lot in making people understand a lot about these people' said Karan.

Nayantara is Suryamukhi now

Looks like Andhra Pradesh is cashing in more on the Nayantara factor than Tamilnadu.

'Vismayathumbathu', a Malayalam film directed by Fazil starred Nayantara along with Mohanlal. The film is now being dubbed in Telugu as 'Suryamukhi'.

Mohanlal solves the mystery of Suryamukhi, who appears only to his eyes in the film.

'The film will strike the right chord among Telugu audiences', say circles close to the producers.

According to reports, Koteswara Rao and T Kranti Kumar had bought the dubbing rights with the banner of Sai Naveen Creations.

There are plans to dub the movie in Tamil too, sources say.

Dhanush to team up with Jawahar again

After the success of 'Yaradi Nee Mohini', director Jawahar and Dhanush will pair up again for the remake of a Telugu film named 'Arya'. However the necessary changes will be made to suit Tamil audiences. Shriya Saran will play the heroine.

Dhanush, who is currently working in 'Padikkadhavan' with Suraj, will team up with 'Polladhavan' director Vetri Maaran for a new film and with Jawahar simultaneously.

Shriya and Dhanush come together for the second time after 'Thiruvilayaadal Aarambam'.

Devisri Prasad, who is working for the movies, 'Kandasamy' and 'Villu' will start composing music for this film as well. Sivaji Film Circuit will produce the film.

Meanwhile Dhanush's 'Padikkadhavan', which is expected to be an action packed entertainer is almost ready and will release soon.

Sheryll Brindo with Sundar C in 'Vaada'

Sheryll Brindo, who made her debut acting with Vijayakanth in 'Arasangam' is on song right now. She managed to bag the female lead in Vijayakanth's forthcoming venture 'Engal Aasaan'. Even before the movie has been completed, she has been chosen to act with Sundar C for a movie titled 'Vaada'.

Interestingly 'Vaada' would be directed by A Venkatesh, who is known for his racy masala entertainers. Sheryll Brindo has replaced Bollywood girl Geetha Basra, who was the original choice to play heroine but then had to pull out because of other commitments. Sheryll has stepped into her shoes now.

Shooting for the movie is on at Ooty. D Imman, who is composing music for the film has remixed the yesteryear racy number 'Ennadi Rakkama' from the Sivaji starrer 'Pattikada Pattanamma'.

Sundar C is probably the busiest hero in Tamil Cinema today with several films under his belt.

Panchamirtham in Ooty

After establishing himself as a successful film distributor, Ramanathan, managing director, Abirami Mega Mall, has ventured into film production. His maiden production venture titled 'Panchamirtham' is currently being shot in the exotic locales of Ooty.

The movie went to floors recently in which Nasser plays a prominent role. Jayaram, Samiksha and actress Saranya are also in the cast.

The movie directed by Raju Eswaran, associate director for Rajinikanth's English movie 'Blood Stone', has musical score by Sundar C Babu. L Ganapathy has penned the dialogues.

'The film has been designed as an entertainer and will have a blend of commercial elements and a contemporary fantasy story. All the artistes have done tremendous jobs,' said Raju Easwaran.

Dwelling further he said, 'Mareesan, a mythological character in Ramayana comes alive today. Can he overcome the guilt for being a party to the kidnapping of Seetha is the crux of the story. However, it's no mythological film, he added.

The movie would be released in the second week of December, said Raju Eswaran.

A song featuring Saranya Mohan was shot in Ooty and actress-cum-dance master Gayathri Jayaram choreographed it.

Vijay to turn 'Vetaikkaaran' after loading 'Villu'

Vijay is currently working for 'Villu' that is being directed by Prabhu Deva. Meanwhile he had done a cameo for his father's film 'Panthayam' that stars Nithin Sathya and Sindhu Tolani. Vijay plays himself in the film and features as though he is acting in a film titled 'MGR' directed by Perarasu.

Vijay's association with MGR does not end here. His next venture after 'Villu' has been titled 'Vettaikkaaran'. It can be recalled that MGR had acted in a film bearing the same title decades ago. This film is to be produced by AVM.

Would it be ironical to say that Vijay would become a 'Vettaikaaran' after arming himself with 'Villu'?

Priyadarshan and his Singapore connection

Priyadarshan, who is busy shooting with Shah Rukh Khan in Pollachi for 'Billoo Barber' (a remake of 'Kuselan'), has left for Singapore recently, where he has reportedly bought a new house.

According to reports, both his children will study there from this year on, and the house is for their convenience.

When asked, the film maker said, "A housewarming ceremony will surely happen. Some of our close friends and relatives will be part of the occasion".

Trisha to sing

View Trisha Gallery Close circles around Trisha have always maintained that Trisha has a sweet voice and that she can sing well. However the actress herself has not spoken much about it.

Trisha is a fervent fan of A. R. Rahman and her hidden talent might just surface soon. Reports suggest that she has been approached to sing a song in the Telugu film 'Raja' in which she stars too.

'I can't reveal more at this point as nothing is official as of yet' says the actress who has been making waves in the Telugu film industry. 'One of my longtime dreams is to sing in a Rahman song and the wish seems to be coming true now', says the actress, who is donning the role of a singer in the film.

Pinning hopes on 'Raja', Trisha says, 'this is the first time I am acting in the role of a singer. Since I can croon well, I feel it could be quite easy to don the character.'

Bharath in 'Subramaniam'

Suresh Krissna is coming up with a film with Bharath in the lead role and the film has been titled 'Subramaniam' according to sources.

The project that has been in the pipeline for a month now will bring together Bharath and Suresh Krissna for the first time.

According to sources a search is on for the heroine. Srikanth Deva has been appointed as the music director and the film would go to the floors soon.

Vimala Raman - Upbeat and Confident

Will Vimala Raman join the likes of Asin and Nayantara and make it big after 'Raman Thediya Seethai'? Though she was introduced by K Balachander in 'Poi', she is still to strike it rich in Tamil.

She is now confident that she would bounce back in style with 'Raman Thediya Seethai', directed by Jagannath and produced by Moser Baer. A former Australian beauty pageant winner (in a category for Indian girls), Vimala Raman said, 'Jagannath has given a beautiful role for me to perform. I play a Nagercoil girl in the movie and my character has come out well and all credit should go to Jagannath for it'.

On sharing the screen with the likes of Cheran, she said, 'it was really a dream-come-true experience for me to act alongside the talented actor-director Cheran. He has come out with several blockbusters and hopefully my scenes with him would rock on screen'.

'Raman Thediya Seethai' features Cheran, Pasuparthy, Nithin Sathya, Vimala Raman, Gajala, Ramya Nambesan and Navya Nair. The musical score is by Vidyasagar and the film is ready for release.

CHANGING TRENDS - Is Tamil cinema coming of age?

If there is one medium that can create overnight millionaires and even Chief Ministers, it has to be the mighty powerful Cinema when it comes to Tamilnadu. Cinema has always been looked upon as a larger-than-life medium glorifying good over bad and creating stars who emotionally and psychologically are looked upon as 'heroes'. This on-screen appeal gradually is attributed to the off-screen persona of the actor over a period of time and the most pathetic state of affairs is that the actor tries to live up to the image created around him. This is a trend that has been happening for a very long time in Tamil Cinema.

There have been movies made in the past especially in the eighties that talked about human emotions without the larger-than-life appeal. However, they were drowned by the almost frenetic craze of heroism that people of the state crave for. After the literally omniscient screen presence of MGR, Rajinikanth ruled the roost with the much needed dash of style. People danced in exuberance to every stylish move of his. This moved well into the 90s and even in the new millennium.

There is a semblance of a cool creative breeze caressing the thought processes of movie audiences in recent years. Movies such as 'Kadhal', 'Veyyil', 'Chennai 600028' and 'Paruthiveeran' were made sans any kind of heroism. These were stories that narrated the lives and times of simpletons who lived in a grilling world with the much needed realism. The Himalayan successes of these films have actually forced many traditional-style- filmmakers to think about a change amongst Tamil movie audiences.

On careful analysis of the changing trend, one has the thought that people probably are tired of watching heroes making dramatic entries, uttering lines in the name of dialogues that glorifies themselves a lot and fighting batches of forty baddies in a routine format.

Tamil audiences have proved in recent years that they would actually like to see an ordinary man rise up to do great things or die in the attempt because of circumstances society brings upon them. This actually toes the lines of human emotions depicted in realistic situations rather than contrived superhero activities.

The fact that Rajini and Vijay starrers can be damp squibs at the box office goes on to prove this point. 'Kuselan' and 'Kuruvi' can be termed forgettable films for the respective stars. The real heroes in recent times are stories such as 'Polladhavan' where a boy rises up to be a man in trying situations. 'Subramaniyapuram' about rustic good-for-nothing simpletons who go astray and perish because of wrong associations.

'Chennai 600028' depicted a slice of Chennai life with loads of realism in it. On the other hand when movies are made with terrific stylish demeanors like 'Billa' starring Ajith they find favors with the public for the sheer exotic flavor.

It is a fact that movies based on nonsensical heroism still do well. But the good news is that no star today can take his Box Office success for granted. Good stories sans mindless heroism is appreciated a lot these days. Probably on a large scale now than ever before making many production houses scout for good stories more than anything else.

A refreshing change is happening. Is it time for Tamil Cinema to smile. Probably not yet….but we are getting there.

MOTHER OF ALL GHANAS releases with 'Pandhayam' music album

Would there be a person among Tamils who is not familiar with 'Surangani….Surangani'? Would really be a miracle to find such a person. Well, this famous Ghana song of Sri Lankan origin will have a pepped up lease of life thanks to its incorporation along with the songs of the S. A. Chandrasekhar film 'Pandhayam' that stars Nithin Sathya and Sindhu Tolani. Prakash Raj and Meghna Naidu also feature in the film. The biggest attraction however would be guest role played by Vijay.

The music album of the film releases on the 22nd of August. The album would also have another popular Ghana-fun-song titled 'Pattu Maamiye Un Chittu Magalenge'. It can be taken for granted that both these songs will go on to become big time hits without any trace of doubt. Vijay Antony is the music director of the film.

Copyright for the songs have been acquired from Ceylon Manohar, the person who is considered the creator of the songs.

It would be reasonable to say that as soon as the album is released a renewed 'Surangani' will be heard all over Tamilnadu and also in all parts of the world Tamils live in.

Sakkarakatti's technical brilliance

Kala Prabhu, son of noted film producer Kalaipuli S. Dhanu is coming up with his first directorial venture in the form of 'Sakkarakatti'. The film introduces Shantanoo, son of veteran director – actor K. Bhagayaraj as hero.

An interesting aspect of this film is that the technical part has been done with tremendous care to live up to the musical brilliance of A. R. Rahman. The film has the creative energy of two cinematographers in the form of Raja and Andrew. Andrew worked as the cinematographer but unfortunately had to leave because of a prior commitment with a Hindi film. This brought cinematographer Raja into the picture. Reports suggest that the director is happy with the efforts of Raja.

However, Kala Prabhu has a very high opinion of Andrew. 'He will fill the void created by the untimely demise of Jeeva' said Kala Prabhu. A comparison with Jeeva when it comes to cinematography is considered a very great achievement.

Jackie who worked as the art director of 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Poi' has worked for 'Sakkarakatti' as well. He is known to be a creative person who has the ability to sketch out stunning designs as soon as the 'feel' of the scene is described by the director. Truly a lovely talent.

'Sakkarakatti' is expected to be loaded with Computer Generated Imagery and all technical facets have come out very well. The film releases in September.

From Kolkata with charisma

Meenakshi, the damsel from Kolkata, is making rapid strides in Tamil Cinema. She started with a bang in 'Karrupasamy Kuthagaikarar' opposite Karan. The movie's success propelled her to stardom. However she was in no hurry and chose to sign her next after much consideration.

She is currently acting in 'Perumal' opposite Sundar C, 'Taxi No. 4777' with 'Ajmal', Pallikondapuram with Napoleon and alongside Lawrence Raghavendra in Rajathi Raja.

'In 'Perumal', and 'Pallikondapuram', I play a rural belle and the role has come good. 'Taxi No. 4777' is full of glamour and I play a bubbly young girl brought up in a metropolis', says Meenakshi.

Not averse to do glamour roles, Meenakshi says, as long as it is not vulgar, I am not averse to appear in glamorous roles. Keen for an image make-over, Meenakashi says, ' Tamil film industry has been gracious to accept me and provide me with great roles'.

Thanking all her co-stars and directors, she says, 'I would love to venture to Bollywood soon and make a name for myself'.

A great admirer of Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan, she says, 'In the coming years, I wish to do many more challenging roles and to carve a niche for myself in Tamil Cinema'.

J K Ritheesh's 'Nayagan' released

J K Ritheesh's second venture 'Nayagan' hits the screens on Friday. Produced by Vijayakumar Reddy, the movie inspired by the Hollywood flick 'Cellular' features Ramana alongside Ritheesh.

Touted as a racy thriller, the movie will be releasing in over 100 screens across the State. Sangeetha, Anandhraj, Sreeman among others play prominent parts in the film.

S. Ve. Shekher's son Ashwin made his debut with 'Vegam', a year ago. Interestingly this film too was inspired by Cellular.

Ritheesh plays an honest cop while Ramana is cast as a youngster who is on a mission to save a woman, kidnapped by a gang. Keerthy Chawla, Vaiyapuri and Anitha play important roles.

Sherin is back

Sherin, the girl who shot to the limelight after her performance in the film 'Thulluvatho Illamai' had a break from Tamil Cinema for quite some time. Sherin is back in Kollywood now and has been assigned to play a meaty role in the movie titled 'Poova Thalaya', directed by Sanjay Ram.

Sources say Sherin was keen on doing films that had roles that mattered. Thankfully Sanjay Ram approached her to do a prominent role in 'Poova Thalaya' alongside Shaam. The movie also features Prakashraj.

The role demands Sherin not just to ooze with glamour but also show her acting skills. Taking the burden in her stride, she seems to have pulled it off considerably well.

Sources close to the director say Sherin has excelled in her role. She could probably begin a new innings with the success of this film.

Sherin sounded very positive and is sure that 'Poova Thalaya' would work wonders for her.

Audiences welcome good srories - Jai

"I play a matured tough character in 'Aval Peyer Thamizharasi'. I'll be playing a 28 year old man in the film", says Jai.

Jai, happy with back-to-back successes in 'Chennai 600028' and 'Subramaniapuram', says, " I am happy that my acting talent has been finally recognized by the masses".

An avid music-lover, Jai had wanted to become a music composer and had formal training under his uncle Deva and brother Srikanth Deva.

"I learnt music right from my childhood. But a cameo in 'Bhagawathy' changed my fortunes. I even came close to acting in Shankar's Boys'.

Jai is optimistic that a favorable change has come among movie audiences. Innovative and good stories are welcomed by the masses. 'Aval Peyer Thamizharasi' will find favor with the masses'. The film produced by Moser Baer in association with Blue Ocean Entertainment is about a man's search for his childhood sweetheart.

A great admirer of Vijay, he says that he had seen Vijay's films like 'Gilli' and 'Priyamanavale' several times. 'I don't copy his mannerisms. But people say that I resemble him a lot. I take it as a credit'.

Jai sounds optimistic by saying that many more talented filmmakers would emerge in Tamil Cinema and the industry would soon reach an all time high.

Raman Thediya Seethai Music Review

Raman Thediya Seethai - Soft, smooth & simple

Vidyasagar is undoubtedly a man of melody and is one of the very few music directors, who actually know how to strike a balance between mass and class listeners. A man of genuine talent, he has proved his mettle coming up with catchy numbers in the past.

Vidyasagar has several hits under his belt and this time he has come out with a soft score for the film ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’. The album has six numbers with the likes of Binny, Thippu, Madhu Balakrishnan, Karthik among others rendering their voices. Vidyasagar has himself crooned a number which is quite striking.

Director Jagannath seems to possess good taste. He seems to have given enough liberties to his music composer in order to come out with melodious scores. Especially the numbers ‘Ippavae’ and ‘Vanathai Vittu’ deserve applause.

Listen to ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’ and you are sure to feel fresh. The songs are like the first rain on barren land.

Mazhai Ninra Pin (Kalyani) lyrics by Kabilan

Starts with a beautiful use of guitar by Vidyasagar coupled with a catchy chorus. Kalyani's mesmerizing voice takes control and takes the listeners to a new world. The violin, dholaks and tablas used in-between provide a different feel. However one is reminded of a few Vidyasgar songs that have been done before. Kabilan's lyrics on nature deserve special mention.

Enne Pulla Senja (Vidyasagar) lyrics by Jeyantha

A typical 'rural' song. Vidyasagar has lent his voice in a high-pitch. Accompanied by thavil, the song takes one to the 1980s when Ilayaraja had come up with such numbers. Jeyantha's lyrics speak about a lovelorn youth. The additional rhythm is good. Designed as a pathos, the song proceeds in a measured momentum.

Ippavae Ippavae (Madhu Balakrishnan and Harini) lyrics by Viveka

A melody from Vidyasagar's kitty is no surprise. He is the master of melodies in contemporary Tamil film music and this song simply proves why he is called so. Beginning with a catchy humming, the song falls soft on our ears. The mellifluous tune and simple lyrics without much instrumentation are the hallmarks of this number. The violin interludes are soothing and refreshing.

Nanba Nanba (Karthik) lyrics by Jeyantha

A song cherishing friendship. Karthik oozes with the right kind of energy. Jeyantha's lyrics induce confidence in everyone in order to be courageous to face the challenges of life in the quest of being successful. It has soft lyrics but a very strong tune. Vidyasagar seems to have followed Ilayaraja's style in the album. He has made maximum use of violins in the song quite like Ilayaraja in his heydays.

Dj Dj Disca Poodu (Binny, Suchitra) lyrics by Pa Vijay

This is the foot-tapping number of the album. Vidyasagar has proved that he can come up with sophisticated catchy western numbers. Supposedly set on a disco floor, the song has everything in it to woo youngsters.

A combination of hip-hop and rap, the song has pacy lyrics and fast tunes. The additional rhythm and orchestration by Vidyasagar gives it a 'Western feel'. Binny and Suchitra team up well to deliver a sure hit.

Vanathai Vitu Vitu (Thippu) lyrics by Yugabharathy

A soft melody yet again. This time Vidyasagar opts for a song that has both class and mass elements in it. The class elements are the good rhythmic pattern combined with the use of violin and guitar, while the mass element are its racy lyrics. Thippu's open-throated voice is a delight to listen to. Especially towards the end, Vidyasagar tries to bring a fusion between the West and East quite successfully.

On the whole, ‘Raman Thediya Seethai’ has soft numbers, which have become a rarity these days. Kudos to Vidyasagar for coming up with a healthy and entertaining album without 'kuthu' numbers or double entendre lyrics.

CHIRANJEEVI TAKES THE PLUNGE

Andhra Pradesh's darling of the masses, Megastar Chiranjeevi has ended months of speculation by formally announcing that he would indulge himself in active politics from now on. He also made it very clear that the name of the party would be announced on the 26th of this month.

The megastar who made it very rich and famous because of the movies announced that he is bidding adieu to acting. He had made this decision because he wants to be a hands-on politician relating to the masses at all times.

Chiranjeevi addressed the media at about 2:45 pm at his newly constructed office in Jubilee Hills. It is noteworthy to mention that images of Ambedkar, Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi were displayed prominently as the backdrop. Is this any indication as to where his party's inspiration is going to be from? Only time will tell us.

The actor-turned-politician took this opportunity to thank lakhs of his fans who were adamant in seeing him in active politics. 'It is only because of their insistence that I began to realize and really be keen on my social responsibility' the star said. He also added, 'this is the happiest day of my life'.

The megastar looked cool and composed and his face was radiating with excitement. All this prompts one to think that this man is passionate about bringing about a change for the betterment of Andhra Pradesh.

Chiranjeevi hailed NTR for proving to everyone that even actors have social responsibilities. He also thanked people of different walks of life like lawyers, doctors, students etc., for their sincere support and vowed to be pro-people all the time.

Chiranjeevi also mentioned that Abdul Kalaam has been a huge inspiration to him and also pointed to the great personalities, whose pictures were depicted in the backdrop as major role models.

When asked about the name of the party, the looks the flag is going to have etc., Chiranjeevi said that he would announce all this on the 26th of this month as it happened to be Mother Teresa's birthday. The announcement would be made in Tirupathi.

"My sole aim is to make Andhra Pradesh into – Santosha Andhra Pradesh and Chiru Navvula Andhra Pradesh" said Chiranjeevi.

No bikinis means no BIG BOSS for Sherlyn

Actress and singer Sherlyn Chopra will no longer join the Housemates in 'Bigg Boss' as she has been shown the door. Sherlyn, who was in discussion to be cast on the show, could not close the deal as her two conditions could not be met on time.

Apparently, the newbie asked for a sum of Rs 3 crore for her 3-month appearance in the 'Bigg Boss' House. Since, after her first music album 'Outrageous', her second album 'Dard-e-Sherlyn' has also become a runaway success, she felt that only a decent price could keep her inside the House for a whole three months.

It is also learnt that Sherlyn suggested that the makers install cameras even in bathrooms of the House, so that she could flaunt her vast collection of colorful bikinis and inner wear while bathing. It seems she was keen to generate loads of teenage interest in the show from both sexes.

It can be recalled that the practice of cameras in the bathrooms of such a reality show existed in UK's 'Big Brother' earlier, until Shilpa Shetty got the practice discontinued two years ago, with a clause in her contract stating it went against her ethics and culture. It is obvious, Sherlyn thinks otherwise.

But since 'Bigg Boss' found her demands outrageous, she was out. "Right from the beginning of her career, Sherlyn has a very bold, outspoken, daring and sensational diva-like image. One can't really blame her for thinking of her colorful bikinis," quipped her publicist Dale Bhagwagar.

"Nowadays, everyone from Kareena Kapoor to Priyanka Chopra is being talked about for wearing bikinis in their movies. So why should we have double standards for reality shows? After all, they are just another medium of expression," added Bhagwagar.

Sherlyn is a typical bindaas new-age babe. Everyone knows that if she would have been on the show, the TRP's would have sky-rocketed simply with her boldness and flamboyance. It's hardly 'her' loss.

Vishal – En route to mass appeal

'Chellame' became a stupendous hit and propelled Vishal to stardom with just one film under his belt. After carefully being part of many other successful projects notably 'Sandakozhi' and 'Thimiru', the actor had come to stay as a bankable star. Vishal and the think-tank behind his acting endeavors probably think it is time to reach out to the next level which obviously is turning into a hero with mass appeal. The outcome clearly is 'Satyam' produced by Vishal's big brother Vikram Krishna.

In a society that worships cinema-heroes, there is absolutely nothing wrong in becoming a mass hero as did superstar Rajinikanth and Vijay with great effect. It is actually a very credible effort and can be viewed as a strategic career move. 'Satyam' has projected Vishal as a cop with an impressive physique and there is a telling difference to his macho appeal when compared to his looks in previous films.

Talking about the film itself, it is a regular run-of-the-mill action flick but with a difference. An ambitious attempt to please the tastes of two states, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh is very evident. 'Satyam' was made simultaneously as 'Salute' in Telugu. Can this trend be adhered to with future movies? Only time will tell and the course of the future might probably depend heavily on the success of 'Satyam'.

Technically, the film is brilliant with impressive cinematography by R. D. Rajashekar who seems to be excelling with every project of his. Computer Generated Imagery in the film has been marvelous except for a few shots that clearly show 3D cars composited along with real cars. Art direction and stunt sequences have been made in a refreshing manner. These technical facets along with Vishal's appeal and Upendra's character depicted in an elusive manner are the positive elements of the film.

However, a serious thought has to start plaguing the minds of most Tamil filmmakers. The fact that the script is the real lifeline of any film and that technicalities though brilliant can only act as catalysts in reaching out to the masses. If only Rajashekar, director of 'Satyam' had a serious thought along these lines, the film might have become one of the biggest sensations this year.

However, the film might just have enough in it to be financially viable and Vishal's quest to be a mass hero will see the light of day especially because of his hard work on and off screen.

'Abhiyum Naanum' – A visual spectacle from Moser Baer

'Abhiyum Naanum' is a film directed by Radha Mohan and stars Prakash Raj and Trisha in lead roles. This is one of the many films that corporate production house Moser Baer is producing at the moment. 'Abhiyum Naanum' is a film which will have the refreshing backdrop of nature. The film has been shot extensively in Ooty and Munnar and is expected to thrill audiences with beautiful shots of nature and slick cinematography.

There are five songs in the film whose lyrics have been penned by Vairamuthu and set to tunes by Vidyasagar. Moser Baer is planning to release the film's music album by the end of this month.

Ishwarya (Lakshmi's daughter) it seems has been at her best in a prominent role and sources say that her performance is sure to be the talk of the town.

The film is currently in post-production.

'Achchamundu Achchamundu' – A Hollywood Tamil film

For the first time in Tamil Cinema, a film has been made using the services of Hollywood technicians in its entirety. The film is 'Achchamundu Achchamundu' and sources say that the film has shaped up in a stylish format with breathtaking intensity all the way.For the first time in Tamil Cinema, a film has been made using the services of Hollywood technicians in its entirety. The film is 'Achchamundu Achchamundu' and sources say that the film has shaped up in a stylish format with breathtaking intensity all the way.

The Hollywood crew was given the English script of the film so that it was easier for them to understand the scenes and dialogues. A few of the crew even managed to get some Tamil language coaching sessions with Prasanna and Sneha, who were more than enthusiastic to teach them. The crew was also very energetic and excited about the project and provided full support to translate director Arun Vaidhyanathan's vision into film.

'Achchamundu Achchamundu' boasts of a crew that has worked in the latest Indiana Jones film and in the Bruce Willis starrer that is expected to release soon.

This film could go down in history as the first film that linked Tamil Cinema with Hollywood.

Taking his own time after 'Sachin', John is back to do his best for his next directorial venture to be produced by Jinnah Creations. Sources say it would be a commercial entertainer.

Buzz is that Jeevan has been urged to play the lead role in the film. The tall actor is currently working for 'Krishnaleelai', directed by Selvan and produced by Kavithalaya.

The untitled film is expected to go to the floors very soon. John in the meanwhile ventured to do a film about the travails of Sri Lankan Tamils, which featured Nanda and Madhumitha in key roles. It is still awaiting release.

Shakthi and his many projects

Thanks to his father P Vasu, Shakthi made a decent beginning with 'Thottal Poo Malarum'. Though the movie managed an average run at the box office, it garnered quite a decent attention. Shakthi did win accolades for his bold performance.

He is currently playing a prominent role in a couple of films including 'Magesh, Saranya, Mattrum Palar' and 'Ninaithalae Inikkum'. The latter is a remake of the Malayalam hit 'Classmates' and features Prithviraj and Priyamani besides Shakthi.

Buzz is that Shakthi has agreed to do an important character in a movie titled 'Aatta Nayakan'. More details of the project are expected to be revealed soon. Also, the young actor would be playing a prominent role in a film to be produced by veteran producer Nagi Reddy's grand-son Sarath Reddy. It would be directed by Badri, who wielded the megaphone for Sundar C's 'Veerappu'.

It is interesting to note that Sakthi is not just waiting for scripts that portray him as the hero. He is playing a plethora of characters and that should be a big boost to his career.

Srikanth finds favor

Srikanth seems to be getting his act right in Tamil Cinema. He is currently busy acting in movies including 'Indira Vizha' with Namitha, 'Rasikkum Seemanae' with Navya Nair. Srikanth has reportedly agreed to work in a movie to be directed by a debutant, Rajpandi.

Interestingly Rajpandi emerges from the shadows of acclaimed directors like Dharani and Karu Pazhaniappan. The movie to be produced by Andal Films would supposedly be story with cocktails of emotions.

Rajpandi assures that the movie would have all commercial ingredients including humor, romance, action and sentiments in it.

Perarasu's song on Bharath

Perarasu had directed Bharath in the racy entertainer 'Pazhani'. The movie managed to do well at the 'B' and 'C' centers. 'Pazhani' managed to take Bharath closer to the masses, who hitherto was playing soft romantic roles.

Currently shooting for 'Sevel', which is directed by Hari, Bharath has agreed to be part of a new film. Titled 'Arumugham', the film is to be directed Suresh Krishna. The latter had directed the likes of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

The highlight of 'Arumugham' is that Perarasu has agreed to pen a song that would be shot on Bharath. Supposedly a mass number, the song would have lyrics that heap laurels on Bharath and would be accompanied by a racy musical score.

In spite of his busy schedule, Perarasu has sparred time to write the lyrics for the song. He is currently shooting for ‘Thiruvannamalai’ featuring Arjun.

Interestingly Perarasu has been writing lyrics for all his films starting from 'Sivakasi' till 'Thiruvannamalai'.

'Satyam' creates ripples of anticipation

Satyam Gallery After the big success of 'Dasavatharam' in Kerala, more Tamil films are being sought after. Rajinikanth's 'Kuselan' was released in 85 centers and in the first week itself, the movie made a collection of more than two crores. 'Satyam' releases in Andhra Pradesh as 'Salute'.

'Padikkathavan' hunting for a song

The Dhanush starrer ‘Padikkathavan’ is shaping up impressively according to the director of the film Suraj. However, the team is keen to follow a trend that has proved successful in most of Dhanush films. Remixing old songs such as ‘Palakkatu Pakathile’ in ‘Yaradi Nee Mohini’, ‘Engeyum Eppothum’ in ‘Polladhavan’ and ‘Ennama Kannu’ in ‘Thiruvilayadal Aarambum’ have proved to be successful moves.

In order to follow this trend with 'Padikkathavan' too, the filmmakers are keen to identify a song that will go with the mood of the story.

Corporates walk in – Panic in the air

As the famous saying goes….'there is only one thing that is constant in life and that is change'….Tamil Cinema seems to be in the verge of a major change and this is brewing ever so stealthily that people in the film industry are caught right in-between.

Corporate companies such as Moser Baer, Adlabs, UTV, Eros Entertainment and Ashtavinayak are making a revolution in terms of how Tamil films have been made traditionally. This has actually sparked off a heated debate as to whether this change is good or bad.

However, there is one person of tremendous importance to the film industry Rama Narayanan, who heads the Producers' Council who has spoken up against the corporate invasion.

According to him, 'a new culture has come in the form of a twenty percent commission and this is sure to bring the film industry to ruin. B-Grade actors are given a large sum of money, almost three times of what they were earning earlier'.

He also added that though small time actors have been roped in by the corporates, big stars like Rajinikanth, Vijay and Ajith have not signed up with any of the corporates. 'With the invasion of corporates with their extravagance, small producers would definitely perish. This is an alarming sign'.

A popular actress who did not want to be named said, 'cinema is becoming more like cricket. We all know how after corporates came into the world of Indian cricket, players have started earning a lot of money. Corporates are coming into the film world now and why shouldn't we earn more?'

A senior member of a corporate production house is of the opinion that the old style of producing films only helped those who were already in the industry maintaining a block to even talented writers and story-tellers.

'The corporate world has put a stop to stealing stories and there is professionalism and respect to talent. This can only be termed good for the film industry' he said. 'The equation is very simple now. Talent gets the money it requires and those who have been making money with somebody else's talent either clean up their act of close shop'.

This is one debate that will be getting heated up time and again in the months to follow.

Keep watching this space for more information as they unfold.

'Achchamundu Achchamundu' is a Tamil film made entirely in the United States of America and designed as a global thriller. The film stars Prasanna, Sneha and Hollywood actor John Shea in lead roles.

'Nandhalala' – In search of mom

Director Mysskin known to come up with realistic themes plays an interesting character in the film 'Nadhalala' apart from directing it. The film is under production and is shaping up fast.

'Nadhalala' is supposedly a different kind of movie which talks about varied cultures and heartlands. It is the journey of a young boy who goes in search of his mother and comes across a youth, who helps him in his search. Does the boy meet his mother or not is what the story is all about.

If 'Taare Zameen Par' was about a dyslexic child and his feelings, 'Nandhalala' would be about a boy yearning for the love and affection of his mother. Thanks to Mysskin, the movie with a complex theme is being made in such a way that the common man can perceive the innate flow of the story.

Mysskin proved his mettle directing movies like 'Anjathey' and 'Chithiram Pesuthadi'. 'His next film would take him to great heights' say sources.

'The film has songs, dance and enough humor to woo audiences', they add.

The movie is a mix of friendship, comedy, action and adventurous fantasy. Her team has researched for over six months and taken great pains to work out every detail with perfection.

Talking about the name of the film, Anita says, 'The film is as hot as 100° and as cold as Kulir (cold). The entire story takes place in a hill station'.

'It's a fast- paced action thriller and a film I can relate to with certain real-life incidents in my life', she says.

Simbu as Billa

Silambarasan has expressed his admiration for Ajith on several occasions. His maiden directorial venture 'Vallavan' saw Silambarasan play a youth who admires Ajith.

Anu Vardhan (wife of director Vishnuvardhan), the costume designer of 'Billa' made some changes in the same suit that Ajith wore for 'Billa', to fit Simbu's size.

Vijayakanth's message to the masses

Vijayakanth's movies are loaded with messages for the general public. An actor-turned-politician, his films portray him as a do-gooder fighting for a cause. Vijayakanth skillfully uses film as an opportunity to expose the evils prevailing in the society.

'Engal Aasaan', the forthcoming venture of Vijayakanth, would be no different. The movie will have him play a manager in a bank located in a village.

He comes out with a strong message to the society with this film where he finds himself in the grip of feudal money-lenders.

According to reports, his bank lends money to farmers at government approved rates, wins their confidence and transforms the village. When private lenders pose hindrances to this, they happen to see a different avatar of Vijayakanth.

Sheryll Brindo plays the heroine and the two come together after 'Arasangam'. Vikranth, Akshaya and Suja are also in the cast.

Directed by Kalaimani and produced by Thangaraj, 'Engal Aasaan' has music by Sabesh Murali.

Rajinikanth and Vijay together?

After the recent release of 'Kuselan', the remake of the Malayalam super hit 'Katha Parayumpol', there is a whiff in the air about another possible Malayalam remake in Tamil.

According to reports, plans are on to remake the Malayalam film 'One Way Ticket' that had Prithiviraj in the lead and Mammootty in a cameo as himself. The story was about Mammooty, a superstar in films, coming down to a village to save his ardent fan's love life.

A big banner that produces Tamil films is said to have bought the rights for this movie and is ready to remake the film with Vijay in the lead role. The reports also add that superstar Rajinikanth has been approached to play the cameo. Official confirmation is not out yet and it is not known if Rajinikanth will give the nod.

An interesting point to note is that Rajinikanth has been remaking quite a number of Malayalam hits. 'Muthu' was the remake of 'Thenmavin Kombathu' and 'Chandramukhi', the remake of the Malayalam classic 'Manichithra Thaazhu'.

With recent reports that have come in saying that 'Kuselan' has managed only a lukewarm opening, the decision and announcement about remaking 'One Way Ticket' might go under the scanner.
